Welcome to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Old Dominion University (ODU).
Chemistry is sometimes called the “universal science” because it encompasses fields as diverse as the synthesis and characterization new materials; the chemistry of life; chemical oceanography and the new area of astrochemistry. These fascinating research areas are all represented in our Department at ODU.
We have a thriving graduate program at Old Dominion offering M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry and Biomedical Science. First-rate research facilities feature a 12-tesla Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer, a laser-desorption time-of-flight mass spectrometer, and several high-field nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers (NMRs) for both solids and liquids.
Our undergraduate degrees in chemistry and biochemistry are ACS-certified. A major expansion in teaching and research is well underway.
